Post Graduate Diploma in Nutritional Oncology


The Post Graduate Diploma in Oncology will help students to develop their skills to understand nutritional challenges seen in Cancer and their management in individuals.

Cancer incidences in India is estimated around 1.4 million cases. 8.3% of deaths in India is due to Cancer every year. Recent development in technology and medicine have resulted in early detection and treatment of cancers.

The treatment involves chemotherapy, radiation, surgery and dietary changes. Cancer treatments can cause complications such as gastritis, esophagitis, mucositis and enteritis, causing nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain and often malabsorption. Typically, treatment modalities in cancer impair the patient’s capacity to maintain adequate nutrition. The overall incidence of malnutrition in cancer ranges between 28% and 80% of different populations studied.

It is a disease caused when cells divide uncontrollably and spread into surrounding tissues, it is caused by changes to DNA. Most cancer-causing DNA changes occur in sections of DNA called genes.

A diet with a focus on plant-based foods along with regular exercise will help cancer patients keep a healthy body weight, maintain strength, and decrease side effects both pre and post treatment.

The objective of this programme is to enhance your knowledge on all aspects of nutrition management including epidemiology of oncology, lifestyle (nutrition and exercise), provide an understanding of the causes leading to cancer complications on various organs of the body as well as adult education theory and chronic disease self-management principles that can enhance the education of all your patients with Cancer. Programme Duration

Minimum time in which a student can complete this post graduate diploma programme is one year while a maximum of two consecutive years is allowed to complete the programme.
