Medtronic collaborates with Siemens Healthineers for spine surgery tech

Siemens Healthineers will integrate its robotic X-ray imaging system with Medtronic’s spine surgery suite to enhance pre- and post-operative imaging technologies for spine procedures, as announced at the North American Spine Society annual meeting.

The partnership involves co-marketing Siemens’ Multitom Rax X-ray imaging system, which will be incorporated into Medtronic’s AiBLE suite. Skip Kiil, Medtronic’s president of cranial and spinal technologies, noted that this collaboration aims to reduce variability and improve patient outcomes.

Medtronic’s AiBLE system combines robotics, imaging, and navigation tools, including the Mazor robotic guidance system and StealthStation navigation. Siemens’ Multitom Rax supports robotic positioning and various imaging methods, such as 3D bone imaging.

Both companies plan to collaborate on technology development and marketing efforts. This partnership comes as competitors like Johnson & Johnson and Stryker introduce their own surgical robots for spine procedures.
