Eggs recalled in Maine due to Salmonella outbreak

Maine officials have issued a recall for eggs from Rainbow Farm due to a Salmonella outbreak linked to the farm's products. The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry announced the recall after the state’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention identified the eggs as the source of the infections, with at least five confirmed cases in individuals who consumed them.

The Division of Quality Assurance and Regulations is working with the Animal Health Program to help Rainbow Farm respond to the situation. Production and distribution of the eggs have been halted while the farm undergoes necessary testing and sanitization.

Consumers are advised to be cautious, as anyone who has eaten eggs from Rainbow Farm may be at increased risk of salmonellosis. Those with the recalled eggs should either dispose of them or return them for a refund. The eggs were distributed at various farmers markets, including Bar Harbor, Blue Hill, Northeast Harbor, and Stonington.
