IIT Madras has unveiled NeoStand, India’s most adaptable electric standing wheelchair, catering to the needs of wheelchair users. NeoStand features a compact design and user-friendly navigation, allowing effortless transition between sitting and standing positions at the touch of a button. Developed under Prof. Sujatha Srinivasan's leadership at the TTK Center for Rehabilitation Research and Device Development (R2D2), IIT Madras, NeoStand aims to enhance users' independence and health. This innovation follows the success of 'Arise,' India’s first manual standing wheelchair, and NeoBolt, the country’s premier motorized wheelchair add-on, all commercialized through NeoMotion, an IIT Madras-incubated startup. Sponsored by Tata Elxsi, the project addresses the vital need for standing among wheelchair users worldwide. By tackling this challenge, the team endeavours to promote better blood circulation, digestion, and overall well-being, empowering users to engage in daily activities with ease and confidence.
