California company recalls shelled walnuts due to outbreak of E. coli infections

Gibson Farms Inc. is recalling organic light halves and pieces of shelled walnuts due to an E. coli outbreak. Distributed in natural food stores and co-ops across Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, and other states, the walnuts have led to 12 confirmed E. coli O157:H7 cases, with seven hospitalized, two experiencing acute kidney failure. Interviews show all 10 patients had consumed walnuts before falling ill.

Consumers with these walnuts should discard them, especially if unsure of their origin. The FDA is investigating stores that received them, some possibly repackaging them. Sold in 25-pound bulk boxes with lot numbers 3325-043 and 3341-501, expiring 5/21/25 and 6/7/25 respectively, a full investigation is underway to find the contamination source.

Recipients should halt sales of lot numbers 3325-043 and 3341-501, returning remaining stock to 1190 Buena Vista Road, Hollister, CA, 95023. Retailers lacking brand or lot code info should hold product, sanitize bins, and contact their supplier.
