DoH– Abu Dhabi collaborates with Pfizer to advance research in sickle cell disease and beyond

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pfizer Gulf FZ LLC at the BIO 2024 International Convention to accelerate Abu Dhabi's status as a global healthcare hub. This collaboration aims to advance research through real-world data (RWD) analysis, initially focusing on sickle cell disease (SCD) and expanding to other areas.

SCD, prevalent in Gulf Cooperation Council countries, causes significant health issues and impairs quality of life. The partnership will utilize RWD to improve healthcare prediction, prevention, personalized treatment, and access, benefiting patients locally and globally.

DoH and Pfizer will promote global knowledge exchange and scientific education to enhance Abu Dhabi's RWD capabilities. The agreement includes upskilling the local healthcare workforce on real-world evidence (RWE) to address unmet patient needs. DoH is inviting global partnerships to improve patient outcomes and quality of life, culminating in their participation at the BIO International Convention 2024 in San Diego.
