Meril, an India-based medical device company, has launched MISSO, an advanced surgical robotic system for knee replacement procedures. MISSO, entirely made in India, offers real-time assistance with high accuracy, reducing the cost of such surgeries by about 66%, making them more affordable. The system can also be adapted for other joint surgeries.
Total knee replacement (TKR) involves replacing a damaged knee joint, crucial for patients with severe osteoarthritis, which affects 22-39% of India's population. Around 550,000 knee replacements occur annually in India, but the need is much higher. Meril's MISSO aims to democratize robotic knee surgery, addressing the rising osteoarthritis prevalence.
Approved by CDSCO and pending CE and US FDA approvals, MISSO ensures a ~98% success rate. Its compact design fits small hospitals, and AI integration reduces pre-operative planning time by ~83%, enhancing personalization and safety. Patients benefit from improved joint function and quicker recovery.
Founded in 2007, Meril is dedicated to innovative medical devices.
