Plastic bottles associated with higher diabetes risk, study finds

Recent research indicates that a chemical found in plastic bottles may heighten the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes by decreasing insulin sensitivity. Bisphenol A (BPA), commonly present in plastic bottles, has been linked to lower insulin sensitivity, potentially increasing the risk of diabetes.

The study suggests that current Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-approved safe exposure levels for BPA should be reevaluated. Researchers recommend opting for alternatives such as stainless steel or glass bottles to minimize BPA exposure.

"This study underscores the need for informed public health guidelines and policies," said the researchers. BPA is widely used in various consumer products, posing a significant public health concern. Reassessing safety thresholds and promoting alternative materials could mitigate the risk of type 2 diabetes and other associated health issues.
