Queso Chonero Special White Cheese recalled in Illinois following testing positive for Listeria monocytogenes

El Cangrejo Guayaco LLC of Chicago, IL, recalled Queso Chonero Special White Cheese because of potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

As per the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall began on May 17, 2024, and remains ongoing. The affected product was distributed exclusively in Illinois.

Listeria monocytogenes-contaminated food may not exhibit unusual appearance or odor but can cause severe and sometimes life-threatening infections. Individuals who have consumed the recalled cheese and experience symptoms of Listeria infection should seek medical attention and inform healthcare providers of potential Listeria exposure.

Recalled products should be disposed of or returned to the place of purchase for a refund.

Consumers who have consumed the recalled cheese should monitor themselves for symptoms of listeriosis, which can manifest up to 70 days after exposure to Listeria.
