Researchers reveal healthy adults, taking multivitamins daily is not linked with a lower risk of death

A study by the National Cancer Institute, involving nearly 400,000 healthy US adults over 20 years, found no link between regular multivitamin use and reduced mortality. Published in JAMA Network Open on June 26, 2024, the research analyzed data from three large, diverse studies with 390,124 participants. Despite hopes that multivitamins might improve health, the study showed no lower risk of death from any cause, including cancer, heart disease, and cerebrovascular diseases, among daily multivitamin users. The findings were adjusted for race, ethnicity, education, and diet quality. Researchers noted the need for further evaluation of multivitamin use in different populations and its impact on aging-related health conditions. The National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health continue to lead extensive cancer and medical research efforts. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), the nation's primary medical research agency, encompasses 27 Institutes and Centers and is part of the US Department of Health and Human Services. NIH is the principal federal body conducting and supporting basic, clinical, and translational medical research.
