Kerala government to introduce Institute of Organ Transplantation in Kozhikode to escalate healthcare infrastructure

The Government of Kerala plans to establish an Institute of Organ and Tissue Transplantation in Kozhikode as an apex center for research, training, and patient care in organ transplantation. Facing challenges such as organ shortages and high costs, this institute aims to provide low-cost transplants and develop a skilled workforce through various courses and research programs.

According to HLL Infra Tech Services Limited, the institute will cost Rs. 558.68 crore and will be funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board. It will include a 489-bed hospital with extensive facilities and aims to perform a significant number of transplants annually.

The institute will offer 31 academic courses and focus on comprehensive transplant research. As a State University, it will operate autonomously under the Government of Kerala. This will be India's first dedicated transplant center, positioning Kerala as a leader in organ transplantation and promoting medical tourism.
