Stutz Packing Company of Indio, CA, is recalling 1-pound packages of Shelled Walnuts due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recall followed routine testing that detected the bacteria. Production and distribution of this product have been halted as the FDA and Stutz investigate.
The walnuts were distributed to food banks in Texas and Arizona, then to various centers including school lunch programs, shelters, and prisons. Listeria monocytogenes contamination may not affect the appearance or smell of the food but can cause serious, sometimes life-threatening infections.
