The CDC has linked an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes infections to Boars Head deli meats. The outbreak, which has affected 34 people across 13 states, has led to hospitalizations for all but one patient and two deaths (one in Illinois and one in New Jersey).
Among 24 patients with available data, 23 had eaten deli meats, with 13 specifically recalling sliced liverwurst, and seven of those mentioning Boars Head brand. Testing by the Maryland Department of Health found Listeria in an unopened package of Boars Head liverwurst.
Boars Head has recalled over 200,000 pounds of liverwurst and other deli meats due to possible Listeria contamination. The recall includes liverwurst made between June 11 and July 17, with a shelf life of 44 days. Other recalled products were made on June 27, 2024.
Consumers should avoid eating these recalled products and contact stores for returns.
