More imported cinnamon recalled due to high levels of lead

ALB-USA Enterprises Inc. of Bronx, NY, is recalling its ALB Flavor brand Cinnamon Powder due to potential lead contamination. While short-term exposure to low lead levels may not cause immediate symptoms, chronic exposure can lead to serious health problems. In children, this includes permanent damage to the central nervous system, developmental issues, and learning disorders. Adults may experience kidney dysfunction, hypertension, and cognitive effects.

The affected product was distributed to retailers in New York, Connecticut, Michigan, and Massachusetts between December 15, 2022, and May 13, 2024. It comes in 100-gram plastic bags with brown cartons featuring cinnamon imagery. The package includes a Best Before date of August 30, 2025, and Lot number LA02.

The recall was prompted by elevated lead levels found by the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station. No illnesses have been reported. Consumers are advised not to use the product and to return it for a full refund. For more information, contact 917-922-5627 or 929-431-8505.
