Boar’s Head Provisions Co., Inc. of Jarratt, VA, is recalling all liverwurst products currently on the market due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, as reported by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The recall also includes other deli meats produced on the same line and day as the liverwurst.
The issue was identified when the Maryland Department of Health, in collaboration with the Baltimore City Health Department, detected Listeria in an unopened liverwurst sample collected during an outbreak investigation. FSIS is concerned that contaminated products may still be in consumers' homes or retail deli cases.
The recall is part of a larger investigation into a multistate Listeria outbreak linked to deli meats, which has resulted in 34 cases, 33 hospitalizations, and two deaths across 13 states as of July 25, 2024. Boar’s Head is recalling 207,528 pounds of products.
