Montana company recalls ground beef associated with deadly outbreak of E. coli infections

A Montana meat processor is recalling ground beef linked to an E. coli outbreak that has caused one death. Lower Valley Processing in Kalispell, MT, is recalling all non-intact raw beef products from animals slaughtered on June 5, 2024, due to possible E. coli 0157:H7 contamination, as announced by the Montana Department of Livestock.

Affected products have the label “Lower Valley Processing, Co.,” establishment number “EST. 007,” and lot numbers 1398, 1399, and 1400. The contamination source remains unknown. Public health officials have removed these products from the market, but some may have been sold directly to consumers. Those with these products should discard or return them and clean storage areas to prevent cross-contamination.

The outbreak was traced to undercooked Wagyu burgers from several restaurants, including Gunsight Saloon and Harbor Grille. For questions, contact Lower Valley Processing at 406-752-2846.
