Cinnamon sold in New York recalled following testing finds elevated levels of lead

American Spices, LLC is recalling Spice Class Ground Cinnamon due to potential lead contamination. The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets (NYSAGM) detected elevated lead levels in the product. The company has halted production and distribution while investigating the cause.

Lead exposure can be harmful, particularly with prolonged or high-level exposure. In children, it may lead to central nervous system damage, learning disorders, and developmental issues. In adults, chronic exposure can cause kidney problems, high blood pressure, and cognitive effects.

The recalled Spice Class Ground Cinnamon, in 7 oz and 11 oz PET jars with an expiration date of 12/2026, was distributed in the New York City area between Dec. 1, 2023, and May 15, 2024. No illnesses have been reported. Consumers should stop using the product and return it for a full refund.
