Elevated levels of lead initiates Cinnamon Powder recall

Advance Food International, Inc. is recalling Shahzada brand Cinnamon Powder (7 oz) due to potential lead contamination. This recall follows an analysis by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets (NYSAGM), which found elevated lead levels in the product. Production and distribution have been halted as the FDA and the company investigate the issue.

Lead exposure, even at low levels, may not always show symptoms, but higher or prolonged exposure can be harmful. In children, it can cause central nervous system damage, learning disorders, and developmental issues. In adults, chronic exposure is linked to kidney problems, high blood pressure, and cognitive effects.

The recalled Shahzada Cinnamon Powder, distributed in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts between January 1, 2024, and May 24, 2024, is packaged in 7 oz plastic bags. No illnesses have been reported. Consumers should not consume the product and return it for a full refund.
