Company recalls cinnamon following state testing reveals elevated levels of lead

Asli Fine Foods of Woodridge, IL, is recalling its Cinnamon Powder due to elevated lead levels found during testing. While low-level lead exposure might not show symptoms, increased blood lead levels could be the only sign. Prolonged exposure can harm nearly every bodily system, with children at risk of permanent central nervous system damage, leading to learning disabilities and developmental issues. Adults may experience kidney problems, hypertension, and neurocognitive effects.

The recalled cinnamon, distributed in Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and Ohio, comes in 7-ounce plastic bags labeled with LOT# DDDLUS and UPC# 703440150723. No illnesses had been reported as of August 29. The recall was triggered by routine sampling from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, which detected lead. Production and distribution have been halted while the FDA and the company investigate. Consumers should return the product for a full refund.
