Alabama company recalls jerky due to lack of inspections

Hickory Hollow Jerky, based in Eufaula, AL, is recalling 6,229 pounds of ready-to-eat jerky products due to production without federal inspection, according to the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The beef and bacon jerky were made between January 19, 2024, and August 21, 2024, under two different owners, with ownership changing on June 11, 2024. Despite the ownership change, the establishment's name and products remained the same. The recalled products bear the establishment number "EST. NO. 34550" inside the USDA mark and were shipped to retail locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and sold online.

The issue was identified during routine FSIS surveillance when it was found that the company continued using the USDA inspection mark after halting FSIS-inspection activities. No adverse reactions have been reported, but consumers are advised to discard or return the products. Those concerned about potential health risks should contact a healthcare provider.
