San Diego Congress members are pressing the U.S. State Department to take more decisive action against Mexico regarding the unprecedented sewage pollution flowing from Tijuana into southern San Diego. This situation has led to severe odors and health concerns in the area.
Officials are questioning why the U.S. State Department has not yet addressed this issue with Mexico. The South Bay International Wastewater Treatment Plant is struggling to handle the large volume of sewage and sediment crossing the border.
Residents of southern San Diego, particularly in Imperial Beach, report enduring foul odors and health issues due to the pollution. “Residents have complained that the sewage odors are constant, disrupting their sleep and causing ongoing discomfort.”
The persistent pollution from Tijuana presents serious health risks, underscoring the need for international intervention and stronger diplomatic efforts to resolve the issue.
