WHO introduced global framework for understanding the origins of new or re-emerging pathogens

Supported by the Scientific Advisory Group for the Origins of Novel Pathogens (SAGO), the World Health Organization (WHO) has released a new global framework to investigate the origins of new and re-emerging pathogens. This first unified approach aims to bridge gaps in understanding pathogen origins and will be updated based on user feedback.

The framework guides scientists and public health authorities, emphasizing the need for timely, transparent sharing of findings to prevent and contain outbreaks and future pandemics. Established in 2021, SAGO developed this framework to strengthen global health emergency preparedness.
