American Cancer Society, Color Health to facilitate free at-home colorectal cancer screening in underserved rural communities

The American Cancer Society (ACS) and Color Health have launched a pilot program offering free at-home colorectal cancer screening kits to underserved communities, especially in rural areas with limited healthcare access. Recognized by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the initiative aims to improve cancer outcomes through better access to screening and care.

Early detection of colorectal cancer significantly increases the survival rate, yet many Americans, particularly in nonmetropolitan areas with 23% higher mortality rates, face delays in diagnosis and treatment. The program will distribute fecal immunochemical test (FIT) kits, which detect blood in stool, to eligible individuals through Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and community clinics in rural and non-urban areas.

Color Health will support patients throughout the screening process, ensuring timely follow-up for abnormal results. Participating clinics can offer these services at no cost, helping to reduce healthcare disparities and improve community health.
