Roche is supporting the global response to mpox, formerly monkeypox, with its diagnostic tests. Declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the WHO on August 14, 2024, mpox is a viral disease that spreads easily between people and animals.
Roche is working with governments and healthcare organizations to enhance laboratory capacity and provide training in Africa, including at its Scientific Campus in South Africa and other locations across Africa.
Diagnostics are vital for identifying infections and managing public health.
Roche has developed three LightMix Modular Virus kits for detecting the mpox virus using various instruments, along with the cobas MPXV test for cobas 6800/8800 Systems. The LightMix Modular Orthopox/Monkeypox Virus Kits, developed with TIB Molbiol, use quantitative PCR (qPCR) for confirmatory testing and are intended for research use in many countries.
