A study published in *Neurology®* suggests that adherence to the MIND diet may correlate with a reduced risk of cognitive impairment, with similar findings for Black and white participants. The MIND diet combines elements of the Mediterranean and DASH diets, emphasizing green leafy vegetables, whole grains, olive oil, poultry, fish, beans, and nuts, while prioritizing berries and recommending fish consumption at least weekly.
The study tracked 14,145 individuals, averaging 64 years old, over approximately 10 years. Participants completed dietary questionnaires to assess adherence to the MIND diet, earning points for meeting specific criteria.
During the study, cognitive impairment was noted in 12% of the low-diet group, 11% in the middle group, and 10% in the high group. After adjustments for various factors, those in the high group exhibited a 4% decreased risk. Notably, women showed a 6% reduction, while no significant change was found in men. Limitations include the study's focus on older Black and white individuals.
