MF Meats in Falconer, NY, is recalling 93,277 pounds of raw meat products suspected of contamination with non-food grade mineral seal oil, not approved for meat processing, per the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (FSIS) Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The affected products, produced from Nov. 26, 2023, to Feb. 16, 2024, include various cuts like steaks, sausage, meatloaf, and ground meat, with Julian dates between 330 to 365 (November 26 to December 31) and 1 to 47 (January 1 to February 16). They bear the establishment number “EST. 569” inside the USDA inspection's mark and were distributed to restaurants in New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
The issue arose after four restaurant complaints of a chemical taste in the meat. Investigation revealed the firm mistakenly received non-food grade mineral seal oil labelled as food grade, applied to food contact surfaces, not directly to the meat.
No confirmed adverse reactions have been reported. FSIS advises restaurants to check for and discard the recalled products.
