Company declines to recall apricot products despite FDA warning of potential cyanide poisoning

The FDA warns against consuming Apricot Power products due to the presence of amygdalin, which can cause cyanide poisoning. Despite the FDA notifying Apricot Power of the risks after receiving a complaint and testing samples, the company declined to recall the products. Consequently, the FDA issued a safety alert.

 The following products were found to contain high levels of amygdalin:

  • Apricot Power – Bitter Apricot Seeds – NGR FY24-015 (California Select) - Net weight 8oz (227g)
  • Apricot Power – Seeds Bitter Apricot Seeds – NGR FY24-016 (Organic Turkish Select) – Net weight 8oz (227g)
  • Apricot Power – Seeds Bitter Apricot Seeds – NGR FY24-017 (South African Select) – Net weight 16oz (454g)

These products can be purchased online. Symptoms of cyanide toxicity include difficulty breathing, bluish skin, weakness, lightheadedness, and severe cases can cause coma, seizures, and death. Consumers should stop using these products and contact their healthcare provider immediately.
