Apple Watch and Dexcom's G7 now offer real-time glucose readings on users' wrists, independently of their iPhones.
Dexcom's G7 CGM seamlessly connects to the Apple Watch in the U.S., enabling users to monitor glucose levels directly on their wrists. This feature marks G7 as the first CGM to directly link with the Apple Watch.
Previously, users could view glucose data on older Dexcom CGMs via their iPhones, but with limitations due to refresh rate restrictions. Now, with the G7 update, users can receive real-time data directly on their Apple Watch.
The FDA cleared this direct-to-watch feature in March, and it's now accessible to users in the U.S., U.K., and Ireland, with further market expansions planned for June.
This advancement distinguishes Dexcom G7 from Abbott's Freestyle Libre CGM devices, as Abbott has yet to establish a direct connection with the Apple Watch. Both companies have FDA clearances for over-the-counter CGMs.
