A severe heat wave in the United States has resulted in at least 28 fatalities, a number that is expected to climb due to ongoing high temperatures. California, Oregon, and Arizona have been hardest hit, experiencing unprecedented heat levels and numerous deaths. Most of those who perished were elderly individuals found in their residences, with additional casualties including a motorcyclist in Death Valley and an infant in Arizona. Heat-related deaths are often underestimated, frequently attributed to causes like heart failure.

With the climate crisis worsening, experts anticipate more frequent and severe heatwaves, posing significant risks to public health and the environment. This stark reminder of climate change underscores the urgency for action to mitigate its effects.
