A Canadian company is recalling certain baby cereal due to Cronobacter contamination found in government testing. Baby Gourmet Foods Inc. is pulling its banana raisin oatmeal organic whole grain baby cereal, as announced by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
At the time of the recall notice, no infections had been reported. The affected cereal, distributed nationwide, is sold under the Baby Gourmet Organic brand in 227-gram packages. The recalled product has a UPC of 6 28619 10003 6 and one of these codes: 24122BROAC G 2 HH:MM BB: 2025AL03 or 24121BROAC G 2 HH:MM BB: 2025AL03.
The CFIA is investigating the issue, which may lead to further recalls. They are also ensuring that the recalled products are removed from stores. Although Cronobacter contamination is rare and not always linked to illness, it can cause serious infections, especially in newborns. Consumers should check their homes for the recalled cereal and stop using it immediately.
