ISB study highlights need for policymakers to pinpoint roadblocks to augment AI integration in Indian healthcare

The Indian School of Business (ISB) emphasizes the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in revolutionizing India's healthcare sector. However, it also highlights the need to address policy barriers hindering AI adoption.

A recent study by ISB's Institute of Data Science and the Centre for Business Markets outlines how AI can enhance healthcare delivery by improving clinical outcomes, patient experience, and access to quality care. The study calls for a policy review to address these gaps and suggests measures like incentivizing electronic health record (EHR) adoption, investing in AI workforce development, and promoting public-private partnerships to foster AI innovation.

Additionally, the report underscores the importance of clear regulations regarding data privacy, accountability, and ethics in AI usage. AI is positioned as a key solution to challenges such as India's low doctor-patient and nurse-patient ratios, which fall below WHO standards. The report also highlights the growth of AI healthcare startups and government initiatives like Ayushman Bharat aimed at supporting this shift.
