Qiagen inks partnership with Bio-Manguinhos to enhance dengue, malaria detection in Brazil’s national screening programmes

Qiagen, based in the Netherlands, has expanded its strategic partnership with Brazil’s Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz, which provides vaccines and diagnostics to the Brazilian Ministry of Health. Since 2009, the partnership has supplied reagents and instruments for HIV and hepatitis C testing. The new collaboration introduces a PCR-based molecular screening platform for malaria, HIV, hepatitis B and C, enhancing Brazil’s blood donation program.

The expanded capabilities also support dengue surveillance with specialized molecular kits developed jointly by Qiagen and Bio-Manguinhos. The Brazilian Nucleic Acid Test (NAT) platform, featuring Qiagen’s PCR reagents, is now part of Brazil’s extensive national blood screening initiative, improving safety by detecting malaria and closing the diagnostic window.

This partnership, involving over 300 professionals and 14 hemotherapy centers, also includes Qiagen’s technology in screening kits for Zika, chikungunya, and dengue, branded under Bio-Manguinhos.
