Certified Diabetes Educator

The Certified Diabetes Educator programme will help students to develop their skills to understand the impact of health behaviour and lifestyle on acute and chronic problems of Diabetes and provide a comprehensive, cost-effective and self-care management plan.

Diabetes is now an important public health problem, with an estimated 463 million people with diabetes across the world in 2019, a figure that is projected to rise to 700 million by 2045 as per the IDF Diabetes Atlas, 2019. In India, there were an estimated 77 million people with diabetes in 2019, a figure that may rise to 134 million by 2045. It is estimated that about half of all cases of diabetes are not diagnosed, and even of those diagnosed, only about half are put on treatment. Even among these, at least half are not managed properly. Several reasons have been attributed to this, like lack of proper knowledge among patients about the disease and its management, dearth of adequate support and care, psycho-social and behavioural issues, etc. In such a scenario, the role of a diabetes educator becomes crucial to ensure proper management and care of diabetes by working with the patients and their caregivers.

In order to enhance the core skills and competencies of health professionals to effectively educate people with diabetes, and promote healthy lifestyles and effective self-management for optimal diabetes control, CNDS, IGMPI has designed this programme. This is undertaken through theoretical knowledge and equips the learners with interpersonal communication skills, this will facilitate the psychological well-being of the patient.

The objective of this programme is to enhance your knowledge on all aspects of diabetes management including the epidemiology of diabetes, lifestyle (nutrition and exercise) , provide an understanding of the causes leading to diabetes, diabetic complications on various organs of the body as well as adult education theory and chronic disease self-management.

Eligibility

Any Graduate/ B.tech/ B.Sc. in Microbiology/ Life Sciences/ Botany/ Zoology/ Food Science/ Food Technology/ BE/ B.Pharma/ MBBS/ BDS/ BHMS/ BUMS/ BAMS or any other discipline. Diploma holders are eligible for our Executive Diploma, Industry Certificate, and Certificate Programmes.

Registration

Programme Deliverables

• – Online classes for all the modules will be conducted on the weekends. Moreover, a doubt clearing session will also be scheduled before the examination.

• – At the end of each programme modules, the trainers shall obtain feedback from the participants using specially designed questionnaires.

Assessment & Certification

All the participants are expected to appear for online assessment. After successfully qualifying the examination, the participants will be awarded the professional certification of Certified Diabetes Educator by Centre for Nutrition and Dietetics Studies (CNDS), IGMPI. For all the above mentioned elaborate study resources, assessment test papers and case studies would be provided by the Institute from time to time. Details get updated on the website as well. The certification will be awarded after the required levels of knowledge, skills, professionalism and attitude are assessed through the IGMPI assessment process.
