The Post Graduate Diploma/Executive Diploma in Nutritional Nephrology will help students to develop their skills to understand nutritional challenges seen in kidney diseases and their management in individuals.
Nephrological disorders, also known as renal or kidney disorders, refer to a wide range of conditions that affect the kidneys. The kidneys play a crucial role in maintaining overall health by filtering waste products and excess fluids from the blood, regulating electrolyte levels, and producing hormones that control blood pressure and stimulate the production of red blood cells. The epidemiology of severity in nephrological disorders is influenced by several factors, including the specific condition, geographic location, population demographics, and healthcare resources.Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a prevalent condition globally, with varying severity levels. According to the Global Burden of Disease Study, CKD ranked as the 12th leading cause of death worldwide in 2019. The severity of CKD is commonly determined by the stage of the disease, based on the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). The prevalence and severity of CKD tend to increase with age, as well as in individuals with diabetes, hypertension, and other underlying health conditions.Other nephrological disorders, such as glomerulonephritis, polycystic kidney disease, and urinary tract infections, also exhibit varying degrees of severity. The epidemiology of these disorders depends on factors such as age, genetic predisposition, environmental factors, and access to healthcare. It’s important to note that the severity of nephrological disorders can have significant implications for patient outcomes, healthcare utilization, and resource allocation. Monitoring the epidemiology of severity helps in understanding the burden of these disorders, identifying high-risk populations, and developing appropriate strategies for prevention, early detection, and management.
A Nephrology Dietitianplays a critical role in the care of patients with kidney disorders. They specialize in providing dietary guidance and education tailored to the unique nutritional needs of individuals with kidney disease.
