Epidemiology is the study of diseases in populations. The three main aims of epidemiology are: to describe disease patterns in human populations; to identify the causes of diseases (also known as etiology); to provide data essential for the management, evaluation and planning of services for the prevention, control and treatment of disease. Epidemiology is an integral component of public health practice. This programme designed by Centre for Health Management and Research (CHMR), IGMPI is aimed to provide the basis to prevent disease and to promote the health of populations through the study of the occurrence and distribution of health-related states or events, including the study of determinants influencing such states. Upon completion of this programme offered by Centre for Health Management and Research (CHMR), IGMPI, individuals will have gained specialized knowledge and skills on the application of epidemiologic concepts and methods to public health problems.

Any Graduation/ B.tech/ B.Sc. in Microbiology/ Life Sciences/ Botany/ Zoology/ Food Science/ Food Technology/ BE/ B.Pharma/ MBBS/ BDS/ BHMS/ BUMS/ BAMS or any other discipline. Diploma holders are eligible for our Executive Diploma, Industry Certificate, and Certificate Programmes.
The duration to complete this programme is 1 year (Post Graduate Diploma), 6 months (Executive Diploma).

IGMPI follows a credit system based on all learning activities involved in studying for all PG Diploma, Executive Diploma and Certificate Programmes. Each of your modules is equal to 4 credits. To successfully complete the programme, you will have to earn all the credits assigned to your programme.
All the participants are obliged to timely submit completed assessment assignments (during the programme, usually after every module) and appear for an online exam at the end of the programme. After successful completion, the participants will receive a certificate of Post Graduate Diploma/Executive Diploma in Public Health Epidemiology as Major by Centre for Health Management and Research (CHMR), IGMPI. For all the above-mentioned modules, Online Classes (Online mode) or face-to-face classes (Regular mode), elaborate programme material, self-assessment assignments would be provided by the Institute. Epidemiology is used to identify causes of disease, identify populations at high risk for disease, develop preventative methods and evaluate public health strategies.Epidemiologists study the frequency and distribution of diseases within human populations and environments. Epidemiologists perform research, education, and public health practice in universities, government agencies, international organisations, and private corporations.Career opportunities within these areas include; public health physicians, epidemiologists, surveillance officer, monitoring and evaluation coordinators, data managers, research officers, public health/sanitary engineers, demographer, community health nurse and policy analyst.
