Post Graduate Diploma/Executive Diploma in Industrial Safety

As industrial operations, infrastructure projects, and manufacturing systems become increasingly complex, the demand for structured safety management and accident prevention has become an essential part of sustainable industrial development. This program is designed to develop professional expertise in recognizing, evaluating, and mitigating industrial hazards while ensuring the protection of life, property, and the environment. It provides a comprehensive understanding of the technical, managerial, and legal dimensions of industrial safety aligned with the latest industry standards.

The course integrates the core principles of process safety, risk assessment, fire and explosion prevention, occupational health, and emergency management. It emphasizes practical knowledge of safety audits, accident investigation, hazard control systems, and regulatory compliance under the Factories Act, OSH Code, and relevant BIS/ILO/ISO standards. Participants gain hands-on exposure to real-world safety management tools, case studies, and industrial practices used in sectors such as manufacturing, construction, power, and petrochemicals.

Anchored in the Indian industrial regulatory context while incorporating global benchmarks, the program equips learners with the skills to design, implement, and monitor comprehensive safety management systems. By bridging technical expertise with managerial and ethical responsibility, the program prepares professionals to lead safety initiatives, reduce workplace incidents, enhance operational reliability, and promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement within organizations.

Module 1: Fundamentals of Industrial, Environmental and Occupational Safety

  • Importance and objectives of industrial safety
  • Accident causation theories and prevention principles
  • Safety culture, leadership, and behaviour-based safety (BBS)

Module 2: Industrial Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment

  • Principles and steps of hazard identification
  • Techniques: Job Safety Analysis, HAZOP, Fault Tree and Event Tree Analysis
  • Risk evaluation and use of risk matrix

Module 3: Safety Management Systems and Audits

  • ISO 45001
  • ISO 14001:2015 and sustainable operations
  • Safety policy, planning, operation, monitoring, and review

Module 4: Indian Legal and Regulatory Framework

  • Overview of Indian occupational safety legislation: Factories Act, 1948; OSH Code, 2020
  • Environmental laws
  • Institutional roles: DGMS, PESO, NDMA, DISH, CPCB

Module 5: Environmental and Sustainability Aspects in Safety

  • Integration of environmental and occupational safety management (EHS)
  • Pollution prevention, resource conservation, and cleaner production
  • Hazardous waste management and circular economy practices

Module 6: Emergency Preparedness, Response and Crisis Management

  • Classification of industrial hazards
  • Process safety and control hierarchy, Industrial disaster management framework
  • Fire chemistry, classes of fire, and extinguishing mechanisms
  • On-site and off-site emergency planning (as per NDMA guidelines)

Module 7: Occupational Health Surveillance and Industrial Hygiene

  • Occupational diseases and workplace exposure monitoring
  • Ergonomic design for improved safety and productivity
  • Health surveillance, first aid, and workplace wellness programs
  • Workplace stress, fatigue and mental health factors

Module 8: Socio-Economic and Corporate Dimensions of Occupational Health and Industrial Safety

  • Economic costs of accidents and productivity implications
  • Corporate responsibility and sustainability in occupational safety
  • Worker rights, equity, and social justice in occupational health

Eligibility

Graduates in any discipline are eligible for our Post Graduate Diploma, Executive Diploma and Professional Certification Programmes.

Programme Duration

The minimum duration to complete the PG diploma programme is 12 months and maximum is 24 months. The minimum duration to complete the executive diploma programme is 6 months and maximum is 12 months.

Programme Mode

Registrations are currently open for regular and Part-time (Online Live Classes) both modes.

Programme Deliverables

A comprehensive study material for all the modules in hard copies ensuring the needs of the audience. The accompanying training material is appropriately aligned with the current Industry’s expectations.

  • Assignments for all the programme modules for continuous evaluation and guidance.
  • Interactive or online live sessions on all key areas of the programme giving all flexibility to the participants.
  • Online Live Classes for all the modules will be conducted on the weekends. Moreover, a doubt clearing session will also be scheduled before the examination.
  • All the efforts are made by IGMPI faculty members to make the entire programme modules easily understandable.
  • Assessment and evaluation for all the programme modules in order to enhance the levels of competencies and skills of the participants leading towards the objective of application in the job.
  • At the end of each programme modules, the trainers shall obtain feedback from the participants using specially designed questionnaires.
  • All learning and training delivery initiatives shall be conducted in English.

Examination & Certification

IGMPI follows a credit system based on all learning activities involved in studying for all PG Diploma, Executive Diploma and Certificate Programmes. Each of your modules is equal to 4 credits. To successfully complete the programme, you will have to earn all the credits assigned to your programme.

All the participants are obliged to timely submit completed assessment assignments (during the programme, usually after every module) and appear for an online exam at the end of the programme. After successful completion, the participants will be awarded Post Graduate Diploma/Executive Diploma in Industrial Safety by Centre for Environmental Health and Safety, IGMPI. For all the above-mentioned modules elaborate programme material and self-assessment assignments would be provided by the Institute from time to time. Details get updated on the webpage as well.

Placement Assistance & Corporate Relations

The Institute has partnered with many organizations for providing with placement assistance to its participants. Besides, it has a robust placement cell comprised of senior level Human Resources professionals and Talent Acquisition experts which maintains close links with business and industry. This cell is continuously engaged in promoting the employability of our participants and encouraging the concerned Human Resource department and Hiring Managers to recruit/hire our participants for their vacant positions. The efforts of our placement cell also include helping with professional resume writing and interview skills.

In recent months, the Institute has witnessed more and more participation from professionals working with global think tanks. The IGMPI ‘s Corporate Resource Division actively recommends our students and training participants for various job requirements and specialized roles to Human Resource, Talent Acquisition as well as the heads of various departments in the industrial sector on a regular basis.
