Workshop on: Alkaline Diets

Introduction:

The Alkaline Diet is a nutritional approach based on the concept that the foods we consume can affect the pH balance of the body. It categorizes foods as acid-forming or alkaline-forming and emphasizes the intake of alkaline-promoting foods to support optimal health, reduce inflammation, and prevent chronic disease. While the body tightly regulates blood pH, some research suggests that dietary choices can influence cellular health and urinary pH.

The diet promotes increased consumption of fresh fruits, vegetables, legumes, and nuts while minimizing intake of meats, dairy, processed foods, refined sugar, and caffeine. Though controversial, the alkaline diet is widely used in integrative nutrition and wellness spaces.
