Workshop on: Food Labelling and Packaging Analysis

This workshop equips participants with the skills to interpret and evaluate packaged food labels and packaging types. This is essential for nutrition professionals, educators, and consumers to make informed, health-conscious, and compliant food choices.

The module supports consumer awareness, regulatory compliance, and nutrition education efforts.

Topics for Food Labelling and Packaging Workshop:

1. Decoding Food Labels

  • Reading calories, macronutrients, %RDA
  • Understanding ingredient order and hidden sugars/salts

2. Common Claims and Their Meaning

  • Nutrients and Health Claims Misleading marketing terms vs regulated claims

3. Food Additives & Preservatives

  • E-numbers, colors, artificial sweeteners
  • Common additives to watch for (e.g., MSG, sodium benzoate)

4. Packaging Materials

  • Health and environmental impact of plastic, glass, cans, and tetra packs
  • BPA, leaching risks, recyclability

5. FSSAI Labelling Regulations

  • Mandatory info: MRP, batch no., expiry, allergen info
  • New rules: front-of-pack labeling, high-fat/sugar alerts

Eligibility

Any Diploma holder/ graduation/ B.tech/ B.Sc. in Microbiology/ Life Sciences/ Botany/ Zoology/ Food Science/ Food Technology/ BE/ B.Pharma/ MBBS/ BDS/ BHMS/ BUMS/ BAMS or any other discipline. Diploma holders are eligible for our Executive Diploma, Industry Certificate, and Certificate Programmes.

Workshop Deliverables

  • The study resources for the Workshop topic ensuring the needs of the audience will be provided to all the participants. The training material is appropriately aligned with the current Industry's expectations.
  • An interactive lecture on the topic giving all flexibility to the participants.
  • Online discussion of the Workshop topic for ensuring active participation of each attendee.
  • All learning and training delivery initiatives shall be conducted in English.

Workshop Completion Certification
