A recent study at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has shown that Yoga can significantly enhance the well-being of individuals with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a chronic autoimmune condition causing joint inflammation and damage. The Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, supports these findings through a collaborative study from AIIMS's Lab for Molecular Reproduction and Genetics, Anatomy Dept, and Dept of Rheumatology, which explored Yoga’s cellular and molecular effects on RA patients.
Yoga was found to reduce inflammation by managing oxidative stress, balancing cytokines, and improving endorphin levels. It slows cellular aging by boosting telomerase activity and enhancing mitochondrial function. RA patients practicing Yoga reported reduced pain, improved joint mobility, and better quality of life. The 2023 study in *Scientific Reports* suggests Yoga may help manage stress, a trigger for RA symptoms, and improve overall health without adverse effects.
