Bausch + Lomb has voluntarily recalled specific enVista intraocular lenses (IOLs) following reports of toxic anterior segment syndrome (TASS) in the US. The affected lenses include enVista Envy, enVista Aspire, and certain enVista monofocal IOLs.
TASS is an inflammatory reaction that can develop within 12 to 48 hours after cataract surgery. While all reported cases linked to enVista have responded to treatment, no lens removals have been necessary.
The company is contacting eye care professionals with details on affected lots and return protocols. Despite the recall, TASS cases represent a very small percentage of implanted lenses.
Bausch + Lomb, founded in 1853, offers 400+ eye care products. It recently launched enVista Aspire IOLs in the US (October 2023) and received Health Canada approval for enVista Envy in May 2023.
