Snke Unveils Medical-Grade AR Headset for Clinical Use

Snke, a spin-out from Germany’s Brainlab, has introduced SnkeXR, an open-platform augmented reality (AR) headset purpose-built for the medical technology sector. Revealed at the MDIC Medical XR Summit in Maryland, US, the device is positioned as the first medical-grade AR headset, with commercial launch planned for Q2 2026. Designed for applications in imaging and orthopaedics, SnkeXR includes a stereoscopic loupe offering up to 3.5x magnification and a depth camera capable of scanning anatomical structures at 30 frames per second.

SnkeXR meets ISO, FDA, and EU MDR standards, undergoing extensive safety and performance validation. Unlike consumer-grade AR devices, SnkeXR supports regulatory compliance and post-market surveillance, offering partners technical documentation via FDA master file submission to streamline approvals. Snke’s open, vendor-neutral platform allows developers to create proprietary medical applications, addressing a major gap in healthcare-specific AR solutions and enabling safer, more efficient surgical planning and visualization.
