Distalmotion’s Dexter Gains FDA Clearance for Hysterectomy; AiM Medical Raises $8.1M for MRI-Guided Neurosurgery Robot

Distalmotion announced that its Dexter surgical robot received FDA 510(k) clearance for hysterectomy procedures, further expanding its role in high-volume soft tissue surgeries and outpatient settings. This marks the Switzerland-based company’s third U.S. clearance, following approvals for gallbladder removal and inguinal hernia repair. The latest authorization covers ovary and fallopian tube removal and other gynecologic procedures, alongside total benign hysterectomy, and includes enhancements to workflow, instrument performance, and OR setup. Dexter, designed to be small and mobile, allows gynecologists to access patients at the bedside and supports outpatient surgeries, reducing staffing needs. It has been used in over 2,000 procedures across more than 30 surgical types.

Separately, AiM Medical Robotics closed an $8.1M Series A round to advance its MRI-guided neurosurgery platform, which facilitates cranial procedures such as tumor ablation, epilepsy surgery, and neurostimulation for Parkinson’s patients without moving patients between rooms. Funding was led by IQ Capital and 1540 Ventures, bringing total capital raised to over $11.3M.
