Corcym and CardioPrecision have developed a robot-enabled transcervical approach to aortic valve replacement that aims to merge the durability of open-heart surgery with the minimally invasive advantages of TAVR. The new procedure, called AVATAR (advanced videoscopic aortic surgery by transcervical approach using robot assistance), allows surgeons to remove diseased tissue before implanting Corcym’s sutureless Perceval valve through a small incision at the base of the neck.
Using CardioPrecision’s CoreVista retractor system, the technique provides direct access to the heart via the neck, enabling visualization and precise valve placement. The system lifts the rib cage to create a working space, while an integrated camera and robotic arm guide the procedure. Because no sternotomy is required, patients experience less pain, minimal scarring, and faster recovery.
The collaboration—bringing together Corcym’s valve technology, CardioPrecision’s access system, and Intuitive’s robotics—represents a new step forward in minimally invasive cardiac interventions.
