FDA Expands Salmonella Outbreak Probe to Include Africa Imports Moringa Powder

The FDA has broadened its investigation into a Salmonella Richmond outbreak to include Africa Imports’ Organic Moringa Leaf Powder. The contaminated product, linked to Batch No. VFD/ORG/MORP/L/24 with a “Best By” date of November 2027, was supplied by Vallon Farmdirect PVT LTD of Jodhpur, India. Previously, the outbreak was tied to Maker’s Mark Super Greens supplements sold at Sam’s Club, which have since been recalled. Africa Imports has also recalled its 1-kilogram moringa powder sold online after June 6. Laboratory testing of samples collected from ill individuals’ homes in Virginia and Michigan confirmed Salmonella contamination matching the outbreak strain. So far, 11 people across seven states have been infected, with three hospitalized. The CDC warns that actual case numbers are likely higher. Consumers are urged to discard recalled products immediately and seek medical care if experiencing symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, or abdominal cramps.
