Nestlé Extends Infant Formula Recall Across Europe Over Toxin Concern

Nestlé has expanded its recall of infant and follow-on formula products to nearly 20 European countries and the United Kingdom due to the possible presence of cereulide, a toxin produced by certain strains of Bacillus cereus. Cereulide can cause food poisoning, with symptoms such as nausea and severe vomiting appearing within a few hours.

The recall follows an initial action taken in December 2025 after routine self-monitoring at Nestlé’s Nunspeet factory in the Netherlands detected Bacillus cereus in part of the production line. Further investigations traced the issue to a contaminated raw material from a supplier, leading to a wider recall. Nestlé has tested arachidonic acid (ARA) oil and related oil blends used in the affected products.

No illnesses have been reported. The recall includes multiple brands sold across Europe, as well as certain SMA formula batches in the UK and Ireland. Nestlé said it is working closely with authorities and monitoring the situation while aiming to limit product availability disruptions.
