The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has called on all stakeholders—including citizens, researchers, food businesses, professionals and associations—to support the creation of a safer food ecosystem by sharing relevant data on food safety and nutrition. The information will help the authority in evidence-based policy development and standard setting.
To streamline this process, FSSAI has introduced a standardised format for submitting representations that seek risk assessment. The move follows concerns that many submissions to the Science and Standards Division lacked adequate data and were not presented in a uniform manner, making evaluation and tracking difficult.
According to an official order, the new format will improve transparency, consistency and efficiency, while enabling the Scientific Panels and Scientific Committee to carry out risk assessments in line with the 2016 regulations governing their procedures.
FSSAI has encouraged stakeholders to submit data generated through monitoring activities, internal evaluations or research and development. All submissions will be treated as confidential and used solely for scientific and policy purposes.
