The Indian Food and Beverage Association (IFBA) is addressing growing misinformation about processed foods, including palm oil, A1/A2 ghee and protein supplements. According to chairperson Deepak Jolly, claims linking these products to health risks are often marketing tactics. He explained that palm oil is safe when consumed within recommended limits, while A1/A2 labels on ghee are misleading because ghee is almost entirely fat.
A major review in Advances in Nutrition found no significant differences in cholesterol or cardiovascular markers when comparing palm oil with other common oils. IFBA stresses that health problems arise from overall dietary imbalance, lifestyle and stress, not single ingredients.
The association also notes that protein supplements—sourced from milk, soy and peas—help address widespread protein deficiency in India. Through science-led awareness efforts, IFBA aims to counter food myths and promote balanced diets aligned with ICMR-NIN guidelines.
