Salmonella contamination initiates recall of fresh tomatoes

Williams Farms Repack LLC has issued a recall for tomatoes potentially contaminated with Salmonella, following a notification from Southeast Tomato Distributors about affected products sourced from H&C Farms. The recalled tomatoes were distributed between April 23 and April 28 to wholesalers and distributors in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, with possible further distribution. The products, repacked into bulk cartons and three-pack trays, include various sizes and lot codes, primarily R4467 and R4470. No confirmed illnesses have been reported, but consumers are advised not to consume the tomatoes. Affected items can be returned for a refund or discarded. Salmonella infection symptoms—such as diarrhea, cramps, and fever—may appear within 12 to 72 hours of exposure. Vulnerable groups, including the elderly, children, and immunocompromised individuals, face higher risk of severe illness. Consumers experiencing symptoms should seek medical attention immediately.
