Tahini recalled in Canada following testing showed Salmonella contamination

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has expanded a recall of Al Kanater brand tahini due to Salmonella contamination found through government testing. The affected product, distributed in Alberta by “1676183 Alberta Ltd.,” comes in 908g white plastic bottles marked with UPC 5 285000 871200, PRO 09/07/2024, EXP 09/07/2026, and Lot: T40907. This recall follows an earlier one issued on May 4 for Lot T41806.

As of now, no illnesses have been reported. However, consumers are urged to check their homes and avoid consuming the recalled product.

Salmonella infection can cause diarrhea, cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours of eating contaminated food. Though most healthy individuals recover in under a week, severe cases may require hospitalization, especially for infants, the elderly, pregnant women, or those with weakened immune systems. Anyone who has consumed the recalled tahini and develops symptoms should consult a healthcare provider and mention possible Salmonella exposure.
