Francis Medical Launches Vanquish Prostate Ablation System in Arizona

Francis Medical has completed the first commercial procedures using its Vanquish water vapour ablation system for prostate tissue treatment in Arizona, United States. The procedures were performed by Rahul Mehan at the East Valley Urology Center of Arizona on patients with localised prostate cancer.

The device uses a combination of ultrasound, transurethral access and electromagnetically guided thermotherapy to deliver high-energy sterile water vapour that ablates prostate tissue. These procedures represent the first use of the system in routine clinical practice outside formal trials.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted 510(k) clearance for the Vanquish system in November 2025, based on results from the VAPOR II pivotal trial. Six-month data showed 91% elimination of MRI-visible intermediate-risk disease after a single treatment.

The therapy demonstrated good tolerability, with no device-related serious adverse events and low rates of urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction reported.
